The City of Springfield is seeking a Traffic Engineering Technician (Operations Division) to join a small, vibrant, and hard-working team that is dedicated to improving traffic and safety in Springfield.
This position supports traffic engineering operations, projects, and studies, while also engaging with the public. Responsibilities include assisting in the operation and maintenance of traffic systems; work indoors and outdoors conducting field studies to determine traffic volume, vehicle speed, effectiveness of signals, adequacy of lighting, and other factors influencing traffic conditions; and designs and inspects traffic related projects under direction of a traffic engineer.

The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. For example, a person with less formal education may substitute an appropriate level of work experience in a technical field.
•Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in engineering or related field, and; •0-2 years of experience performing basic technical tasks related to entry-level work in technical, computer, drafting, engineering or traffic operations businesses (Technician I) •3-5 years of experience in traffic engineering or traffic operations, typically at a journey level, or related experience (Technician II) •5 or more years of advanced level experience performing more technically challenging duties (ex: programming hardware and software to support traffic signals, streetlights, and traffic communication systems, designing/ drafting traffic system plans, etc.) (Technician III)
Licensing/Certifications: • Valid Driver’s License in the State of Oregon within 2 months of appointment
*The following certificates shall be obtained within designated time frames and shall be maintained as a condition of maintaining the position:
Traffic Engineering Technician I: •ODOT Traffic Signal Inspector certification within 1 year of appointment. •International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone certification within 1 year of appointment.
Traffic Engineering Technician II – In addition to Technician I requirements: •IMSA Signs and Markings certification within 1 year of appointment
Traffic Engineering Technician III – In addition to Technician II requirements: •IMSA Traffic Signals and Roadway Lighting within 1 year of appointment
