About the Role:
We are seeking a business-driven and technically proficient MEP Principal to lead sales growth, project execution, and team management within our NYC-based operations. This role is ideal for an entrepreneurial professional with extensive experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, a strong network in the New York City MEP and construction market, and a passion for high-performance buildings and sustainable design.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development (50%)
Drive new business opportunities in commercial, residential, and institutional MEP markets, with a focus on sustainability and energy-efficient building systems.
Leverage an existing network of clients, contractors, and developers to build a robust project pipeline.
Meet and exceed sales and revenue targets; deliver strategic proposals and lead bid efforts.
Represent the firm at industry events, client meetings, and professional associations.
Technical Oversight & Project Management (30%)
Lead and review MEP engineering design, technical deliverables, and QA/QC processes.
Ensure code compliance and design alignment with NYC local laws, including LL84, LL87, and LL97.
Supervise execution of green building and sustainability projects (LEED, Passive House, Energy Modeling).
Act as technical authority for high-performance HVAC, lighting, energy systems, and controls.
Team Leadership & Operations (20%)
Manage and mentor a distributed team of engineers and remote staff, including project managers.
Oversee project timelines, budget tracking, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with leadership to set strategic direction and optimize internal workflows.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
Minimum 6 years of experience in the MEP industry with significant project work in NYC.
Proven sales track record in securing and delivering MEP contracts and services.
Strong familiarity with NYC Local Laws 84, 87, and 97, and green building frameworks (LEED, WELL, etc.).
Knowledge of energy audits, retro-commissioning, and carbon compliance.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York (preferred).
Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling or simulation tools.
Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship management skills.
Nice to Have:
Existing relationships with NYC-based developers, architects, sustainability consultants, and building owners.
Experience leading decarbonization or electrification initiatives.
Certifications such as LEED AP, CEM, or WELL AP.
