Job Summary:
Optimum Fire and Security is seeking an experienced and motivated BDA/ERCES System Technician to join our team. This role involves the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) and Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) to ensure reliable public safety radio coverage in buildings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF systems, building codes, and communication systems, with a commitment to delivering quality work and ensuring compliance with NFPA and local fire code standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and commission BDA/ERCES systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and maintenance of BDA/ERCES systems in compliance with NFPA 72, NFPA 1221, and IFC standards.
- Perform signal strength surveys, site evaluations, and system design assessments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to RF signals, cabling, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, ordinances, and fire department regulations.
- Collaborate with contractors, clients, and public safety officials to ensure successful project completion.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system tests, inspections, and service reports.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and code requirements for public safety communication systems.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Demonstrating proficiency and quality during the installation of project-specific components and equipment that is consistent with manufacturer and company standards.
- Performing installation and maintenance of equipment installations.
- Physically placing, removing, and/or modifying working and non-working equipment including but not limited to:
- Routing cables that supply AC and/or DC power or transmit data in various technical spaces.
- Resolve equipment and technical issues as they arise.
- Demonstrating the ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Demonstrating the ability to work professionally at all job sites.
- Maintaining a safe and clean work area with orderly tools.
- Maintaining customer confidence by performing outstanding work.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $29.00 - $35.00 per hour based on experience.
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

Qualifications:
- Proven experience in BDA/ERCES system installation, maintenance, and testing.
- Familiarity with NFPA 72, NFPA 1221, and local jurisdiction codes related to ERCES systems.
- Knowledge of radio frequency (RF) systems, signal boosters, and distributed antenna systems (DAS).
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Certification in related areas (e.g., NICET, FCC GROL) is a plus.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, when required.
- NICET certification is a plus.
YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions, frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.
