The mission of UW-Stevens Point’s Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology is to make more and better use of our region’s abundant natural resources through sustainable technology-based economic development to benefit our rural communities. It does this through engagement with forest products, paper, and packaging businesses, providing key testing, analysis, and development services to businesses, translating research into new products, and contributing thought leadership at the interface of business and higher education.
Lead the advancement of contract research projects focused on natural fiber applications particularly in the areas of commercial wood fiber diversification, specialty paper manufacture, process improvements and efficiency, sustainable packaging, and repulpability and recyclability protocols.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Paper Science, or a related field focusing on natural fibers.
Three or more years of experience
Demonstrated experience in natural fiber research.
Project management skills and experience.
Strong background with hands-on lab experience.
Preferred Qualifications
5 + years of experience
Ability to efficiently solve problems using innovative and critical thinking methods.
Knowledge of paper-making, packaging, and molded fiber processes.
Knowledge of the forest products industry.
Knowledge of sustainability practices in the forest products, paper, packaging, and fiber industries.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and industry clients.
