The Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) is a national 501(c) nonprofit organization that works with communities to provide clean water and healthy natural resources. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a strong technical foundation, excellent communication skills, and 1 to 5 years of related experience to fill a Water Resources Professional I position. This position will include opportunities to work on a wide variety of CWP projects in a fast-paced environment that requires individuals that can work efficiently, produce high quality deliverables on-time and on-budget, and have excellent communication skills. This is a mostly virtual position; however, the candidate should be located within driving distance to the CWP office (Fulton, MD) as occasional travel to the office is needed to facilitate communication and efficient work progress. Pennsylvania-based location would be desirable. Some example tasks include:
Performing GIS mapping and analysis
Conducting field work
Writing plans and reports related to watershed planning and stormwater management
Conducting codes and ordinances reviews
Conducting literature reviews and research on watershed and stormwater
Implementing stormwater management programs
Assisting with technical trainings
Assisting with project management, such as meetings, reports, and budgets
Interacting with clients and/or grant administrators on project status and developments
Assisting with plan and design of green infrastructure and nature-based solutions
Conducting site assessments for water quality improvements and stormwater retrofits
The successful applicant will have proficient time management, project completion, and teamwork skills along with a wide variety of technical skills to be easily plugged into projects and quickly adapt to a fast-paced working environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, forestry, water resources engineering, or related field. Strong writing and speaking skills essential, with demonstrated ability to translate complex engineering and science concepts into clear and understandable terms. On occasion may be expected to walk up 3 to 5 miles per day and lift/carry objects weighing up to 20 lbs over various terrain. Additional desirable skills and experience include:
Knowledge of stormwater regulations and requirements (urban and agricultural, federal, state, and local)
GIS skills (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) and ability to innovate and problem solve new GIS solutions
Facilitation of stakeholder input and skilled in communicating to a variety of different audiences, such as elected officials, boards, technical staff and residents
Watershed plan development and/or implementation
Grant administration
Strong organizational skills, including tracking and managing multiple tasks and priorities
Experience with project implementation is strongly desired. This position is primarily virtual but requires field work and travel throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other parts of the country for projects as needed. Actual travel is expected to be less than 20% per year.
Salary and Benefits: This position is expected to pay between $55,000 to $62,000 depending on education & experience. CWP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
