MnDOT is currently soliciting interest from candidates to lead and direct the agency’s Operations Division. This statutory unclassified position serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner.
This position provides leadership and strategic direction for the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) Operations Division. The position develops policy and plans and implements programs for daily road maintenance operations and the delivery of statewide road construction. Responsibilities include:
Providing leadership and direction to the Operations Division staff and work groups
Participating as a member of the Commissioner’s Management Team
Counseling and advising the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Financial Officer and Chief of Staff on global, national and statewide maintenance operations and construction programming matters
Partnering with the Commissioner’s staff and legislative liaison for legislative proposals, initiatives and activities
Developing and maintaining ongoing relationships with external customers, legislators, city councils, county boards and other governmental agencies
This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul, Minnesota. This position will have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to report to the office 3 days per week and make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.
In-state travel is up to 15% of the time, and out of state travel may include several conferences each year.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (civil) with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) AND five years of engineering management experience leading and directing road construction and/or maintenance for a large organization.
Experience must include the following:
Experience managing a large budget and planning resources to meet the short- term and long-term goals of the office and the organization
Experience advising and consulting with leaders
Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of customers and stakeholders
