The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Oregon’s Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact (Knight Campus) invites applications for two complementary tenure-track faculty positions in Neuroengineering:
1. Experimental & Translational Neuroengineering Examples include but are not limited to the following: clean-room micro- and nanofabrication methods for neural interfaces, neurophotonics methods for brain stimulation, recording, and imaging, pre-clinical models in bioelectric medicine or brain injury repair, brain organoid technology development, and disease models.
2. Computational & Data-Science Neuroengineering Examples include but are not limited to the following: neural signal processing & data analytics for feature extraction, decoding, and adaptive control, high-throughput behavior tracking and closed-loop perturbations (e.g. pose estimation, unsupervised behavior clustering, neural conditional feedback), neuromorphic computing & AI hardware or brain-inspired AI algorithm development, spatial analysis of multi-omics data.
We are particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrated track record of translating discoveries into real-world impact, including through entrepreneurial activities; a demonstrated commitment to mentoring and advancing inclusive participation in scientific training and career pathways; and success in pedagogical environments that employ evidence-based teaching practices.
All ranks (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) with a track record of research excellence commensurate with their seniority will be considered.
Minimum Requirements
• Doctorate in Engineering, Neuroscience, Biology, Human Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution of higher education. • Evidence of successful mentoring of trainees at any level (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, postdoctoral, peers). • Record of research excellence appropriate to career stage, such as peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding. • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, as evidenced through research, teaching, mentoring, or service.
Preferred Qualifications
• A nationally recognized track record of scientific achievement as evidenced by an outstanding publication record and other appropriate external indicators relevant to the individual’s seniority in the field. • Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments with the ability to build successfully at multiple interfaces (e.g., UO colleges and departments, other Oregon universities, and industry). • Demonstrated experience with large government agencies, foundations, industry, and philanthropy with a thorough understanding of funding opportunities and pathways, and strategies to successfully attract funding sufficient for the individual’s research program and ambitions as relevant to the individual’s seniority in the field. • Demonstrated commitment to translating research discoveries into applications that improve human health. • Demonstrated commitment to diversifying the pipeline of participants in science training and careers. • Demonstrated success in a pedagogical environment using evidence-based pedagogical methods. • Demonstrated service contributions and leadership in academia, research societies, government, and/or industry relevant to the individual’s seniority in the field.

The Knight Campus is a bold new effort designed to accelerate the cycle of translating scientific discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation, and beyond. Rooted in the University of Oregon’s 60-year history of interdisciplinary collaboration, the Knight Campus catalyzes new research opportunities, forges partnerships with industrial and clinical practitioners, and provides integrated experiential training for the next generation of citizen scientists and entrepreneurs.
