The Department of Biology at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in genetics beginning August 2025. A demonstrated ability or potential for establishing a vigorous, externally funded research program, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and effective teaching are essential. Applicants should demonstrate a use of modern genetic approaches to study evolutionary, developmental, or physiological processes. Teaching responsibilities are a junior level course in genetics twice yearly, develop and teach an upper level and graduate courses in their area of expertise, and may also include instruction in a lower-level course as needed. The successful candidate will actively engage undergraduate, graduate, and underrepresented students in their envisioned research program. Collaborations within the department, across other academic units, and external agencies in acquiring external funding is highly desirable.

Maintain an active research agenda that includes publication of research papers in peer-reviewed journals and/or submission of research grants.
Actively participate in academic service at the department, college, and university levels.

Physical Requirements:
Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.
