Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy (R&E) is searching for a Program Supervisor to manage R&E waste reduction and recycling programs.
R&E is a joint powers entity formed by Ramsey and Washington Counties. R&E coordinates recycling and waste programs between the two counties and owns and operates the Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy Center (R&E Center) in Newport, Minnesota (recyclingandenergy.org). R&E’s vision is vibrant, healthy communities without waste, and R&E accomplishes its mission through partnerships and innovation.
This position reports to the R&E Program Director and will provide leadership to R&E’s waste reduction & recycling programs. This position will supervise the team of staff working on these efforts and will closely collaborate with staff from both counties.
Qualifications: A valid Class D driver’s license is required.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, environmental studies, environmental science, public health, natural sciences, communications, behavioral sciences, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.
Experience: Five years of experience service delivery, preferably related to waste management, one of the preferred fields above, or a related field. At least two years of experience supervising staff, which can be part of the five years of public sector experience, or at least two years of private sector supervisory experience in addition to the five years of public sector experience.
Substitution: A Master’s degree in any of the above fields may be substituted for two years of the required non-supervisory experience.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Experience: At least eight years of highly applicable service delivery experience, preferably in the public sector, with at least four years as a supervisor.
Ramsey and Washington counties have worked together to manage waste responsibly since the mid-1980s.Today, the counties work jointly through Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy (R&E) to protect human health and the environment and meet the state of Minnesota’s solid waste policy goals including achieving a 75% recycling goal by 2030. R&E also collaborates with Hennepin County through the Partnership on Waste & Energy to maximize diversion of waste resources through policy and legislative advocacy around integrated waste management solutions.
R&E offers programs such as Food Scraps Pickup Program and BizRecycling among many others to help residents and businesses reduce waste and recycle more effectively. Through R&E, the counties are increasing investments in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. R&E also manages the R&E Center, which processes garbage from the two counties to recover valuable materials and divert waste from landfills. The R&E Center receives approximately 440,000 tons of garbage every year through serving over 800,000 residents and 70,000 businesses. This important work is completed by approximately 115 full-time staff as well as collaboration with staff from the two counties.
