The Town of Erie is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate-level Transportation Engineering Intern to join the Transportation & Mobility Division within the Public Works Department. This part-time, paid internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in transportation engineering while working under the guidance of experienced transportation staff.
The intern will support various projects, including data collection and analysis, development review, signal timing review, pavement maintenance cycle analysis, pavement marking design, and other engineering-related tasks.
The internship is expected to run from September to December 2025, with the potential for extension based on department needs. A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required. This position offers a hybrid work schedule and may be eligible for college credit. All staff are expected to adhere to the Town’s mission, vision and values of T.R.U.E.

WORK LOCATION: Town Hall -645 Holbrook St, Erie, Colorado 80516
ANTICIPATED WORK SCHEDULE:
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This position requires a minimum of three in-office days per week, with the option to work remotely up to two days.
HIRING PAY RANGE: $22.00/hour - $25.00/hour
Key Responsibilities:
Typical duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
Collect, organize, and assist in analyzing transportation traffic data.
Conduct research and summarize technical information in relation to traffic and pedestrian safety.
Review development projects and apply town, state, and/or federal level standards/regulations
Review the 5-year maintenance plan in conjunction with the latest street deficiencies scan to provide updates and rankings for town lead maintenance projects.
Support the evaluation and development of transportation-related CIP projects.
Review intersections (both signalized and non-signalized) for safety and level of service (LOS) related improvements.
Support transportation staff with inquiries related to current and long-range engineering initiatives.
Perform fieldwork as needed, including site visits and documentation.
Coordinate with other Town departments, including Parks & Recreation, Police, and Environmental Services, on transportation related projects.
Collaborate with the Communications & Community Engagement Department and assist with public outreach and information.
Maintain records and file documents in compliance with Town policies.
Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
