LandStudies, Inc. (LSI) is a design/build ecological restoration firm founded in 1989 with the mission to restore and improve natural systems through a holistic approach resulting in functional, natural landscapes. We have assisted clients on projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, specifically focusing on water resource issues and the challenges facing the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. LandStudies is a certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).
Our Economic Ecology™ philosophy maximizes both economic and environmental returns to solve water issues, such as pollutant removal and flood reduction, at a regional scale. It is defined by ecological principles that are validated by engineering measurement and performance standards. It is proactive rather than reactive, addressing the causes of problems and not merely symptoms. By employing the principles of Economic Ecology™, planners and decision-makers can reduce wasteful spending and more effectively meet regulatory requirements for stormwater, flooding and more. Economic Ecology™ also involves the formation of partnerships with government, public, non-profit and private organizations to share costs and increase benefits thr...oughout an entire region or watershed.
Our methods for implementation include strategic water resource planning and floodplain restoration. Our strategic floodplain restoration approach offers a lasting solution to water quality issues (including pollution and flooding) and presents a viable way to maximize economic growth and development (see attachments for examples of our projects).
LandStudies has a diverse client base ranging from municipal, county, state, and federal governments to residential landowners, corporations, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions. Our experience working closely with each group has allowed us to understand the unique needs of each group, and we understand that meeting each client’s individual needs will ultimately result in productive and successful project.
