Location: This is a hybrid position with required onsite day on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. This position may be assigned to Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula. The candidate must be located within commutable distance of the locations OR willing to relocate (relocation package available to those who qualify).
We are looking for: Prin Electrical Engineer (HVD Lines Design)
The HVD Lines Design Team is responsible for the design of all of Consumers Energy’s 46kV and 138kV electric high voltage distribution line assets. This position reports to the Northern Region High Voltage Distribution Lines Design Engineering Manager.
The Principal Electric Engineer is a departmental subject matter expert of electrical engineer. This role is responsible for engineering and design of large complex project for the sustainable operation of our distribution, generation, and storage system. This role collaborates with a team of engineers and technicians and coordinates across the organization and external stakeholders, on large complex technical projects within their subject matter of expertise. They are specialist in electrical utility systems and products design, layout, implementations.
The HVD Lines Design Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing and performing the design of complex and time sensitive projects for a region that covers the northern section of Consumers Energy’s High Voltage Distribution electric service territory. This position is responsible for working with and reviewing the work of internal technicians and outside consultants who are designing capital HVD projects for reliability and capacity needs as well as supporting the creation of documents needed to construct the HVD Lines designed projects. This position provides analysis of equipment and material applications for the design and construction of HVD lines. The Principal Electrical Engineer will review the most recent changes to the National Electric Safety Code and incorporate these changes and other best engineering practices into Consumers Energy HVD line designs. This position is also responsible for communicating with external stakeholders and clients concerning topics related to HVD Lines which includes responding to notifications and requests from county and state road commissions, private individuals and corporations, and other utility representatives.

Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance
Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e., generation, transmission, and distribution of three phase alternating current power)
Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset

In this role, you will be responsible for:
Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all electrical engineering project matters
Manage the development and implementation of electrical systems
Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
Prepare contract documents, including specifications, drawings, and addenda
Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps and investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
Oversee and manage the installation of electrical equipment and components
