Projects you may support include:
Evaluation and Design for intersection improvements throughout the county including stop controlled, signalized intersections, and roundabouts.
Support of county-wide objectives like Vision Zero, ADA Transition Plan, Safe Routes to School, and the Active Transportation Plan.
Coordination with WSDOT and other jurisdictions on impactful projects within Pierce County including Complete Streets, trails, and pedestrian safety improvements.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction to assigned professional and technical staff responsible for traffic engineering programs and functions.
Perform professional traffic engineering work including routine and comprehensive traffic engineering studies.
Assist the Traffic Engineering Manager in leading and directing the operations of the Traffic Section.
Develop, implement, and review ongoing programs, policies, procedures, and practices in the traffic engineering section.
Review road improvement plans to determine requirements for traffic control devices and number and type of traffic lanes.
Oversee the review of proposed land use developments for possible traffic impacts on the County road system and the development of recommendations for mitigating measures and conditions for development.
Make recommendations on matters relative to the placement of traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings.
Study, analyze, and prepare engineering-related reports as required by state, federal and local authorities, present findings verbally or in writing to county staff, officials, or other agencies.
Supervise designs of proposed physical traffic facilities such as roadway channelization, striping, and traffic islands.
Complete reviews and evaluations of employee job performance; initiate disciplinary action when necessary; respond to grievances at the first level.
A resume and cover letter are required for this position.
Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil engineering or closely related field with a specialization in traffic and transportation engineering.
Five or more years’ experience in traffic and transportation engineering.
Certification as a Professional Engineer by the State of Washington required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred.

Compensation for this position is from $125,555.75 to $169,394.48 annually.
