SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall direction and allocation of resources for Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) company's transmission & distribution infrastructure teams providing installation, operations and maintenance of electric facilities to include transmission/distribution lines and substations, planning, protection and controls and GIS/mapping functions. Responsible for the overall direction of the team providing land service to all parts of TNMP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for and directs engineering and operations activities for the engineering, construction and maintenance of transmission & distribution systems (mainly transmission lines and switch/sub-stations) for TNMP operations
Leads the statewide TNMP System Protection, Transmission System Planning, Substation Operations, Transmission and Substation Project Management and Strategic Project Development groups.
Directs and oversees the large construction project engineering and management, including strategic project development, and budget preparation
Directs the implementation/coordination of and overall management of large electric transmission & distribution projects
Directs and oversees the acquisition of land/easements and maintaining land rights for TNMP
Develops and manages overall multi-million dollar Capital/O & M budgets
Provides technical and operational support to key individual industrial customers as required to address issues of capacity, reliability, and other issues
Provides daily management activities of staff to include performance management, compensation and recruiting activities
Develops retention strategy and developmental opportunities for staff
COMPETENCIES:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in math or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Diverse knowledge of transmission system operations, ERCOT requirements, power quality and construction principles
Knowledge of compliance requirements, policies, and guidelines
In depth knowledge of industry best practices
Demonstrated experience in developing a safety culture
Proven leadership and managerial ability
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in engineering with seven to nine years of related experience including two years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience relate to the discipline.
Master's degree preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Professional Engineering license is preferred.
Must possess a current, legally valid driver's license and meet the company's driving record requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages, directs, coaches, supports, delegates, and develops a diverse, high-performance group of professionals.
Responsible for employee development and performance management skills
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge of database, inventory, spreadsheet, and word processing software
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to solve complex practical problems, primarily technical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to integrate technical solutions into larger corporate directives and goals to ensure compatibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand or walk up to 1/3 of the time and regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity is required to perform computer applications and good vision is required to perform all aspects of the job. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment with occasional visits to the field
