NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking an Energy Resource Developer to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to drive the development of new energy generating resources through strategic partnerships and innovative energy supply solutions. This role will focus on building and maintaining relationships with private developers, other utilities, and partner organizations to identify and execute joint ventures for resource development. The developer will manage the entire partner development process, including drafting and issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for energy supply, managing the contract development process, and coordinating all aspects of the project lifecycle to ensure the timely and cost-effective development of new energy resources.
The Energy Resource Developer supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
Identifying and establishing relationships with private developers, utilities, and other organizations to explore opportunities for joint resource development projects; representing the organization at industry conferences, meetings, workshops, and site visits to expand networks and identify potential partners.
Collaborating with management, the Resources, Planning and Transmission team, and with input from MEAN’s portfolio management consultant, to determine the optimal location, type, and timing of future resources in accordance with the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and the Strategic Plan.
Overseeing all aspects of resource development projects, from concept to commissioning, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution, monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement solutions to overcome any obstacles to project success.
Developing, drafting, and managing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for new energy supply initiatives, ensuring they align with the organization’s strategic objectives; evaluating RFP responses, lead negotiations, and recommend the selection of partners based on technical, economic, and operational considerations.
Negotiating and managing agreements and contracts with external partners to ensure alignment with business goals; working with stakeholders to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Staying up-to-date with energy market trends, regulatory changes, emerging technologies, grant funding, and tax incentives to identify new opportunities and potential cost offsets for resource development; conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to assess the viability of potential projects.
Overseeing, to the degree stipulated in applicable agreements and as necessary, the engineering specifications, procurement, and construction activities of MEAN-owned generation and power purchase agreements to ensure quality and lowest life-cycle costs and ensure all resource development projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations; obtaining necessary permits and approvals for projects as required.
Coordinating with the Resources, Planning and Transmission team to prepare the 5-year Integrated Resource Plan and Annual Progress Report for submittal to Western Area Power Administration on behalf of MEAN members.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business or related field and minimum of 5 years of experience in energy resource development, power generation, energy procurement, or project management within the utility or energy sector
Proven track record of developing successful partnerships with external developers, utilities, or organizations
Demonstrated experience with new generation and energy storage technologies and renewable energy projects, such as wind, solar, or hydropower, is highly desirable
Strong understanding of energy markets, regulations, and emerging technologies
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders
Ability to analyze and interpret financial, technical, and legal information related to energy development projects
Proficient in the development and management of RFPs
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
