The City of Miami Beach (pop. 82,890) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking engineering leader to serve as its next City Engineer. This executive-level position reports to the Public Works Director and plays a key leadership role in one of the City’s most critical and high-performing departments. The City Engineer oversees the design, permitting, and delivery of complex capital projects while ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with citywide goals for resilience, mobility, and quality of life.
With a diverse portfolio that includes infrastructure planning, construction oversight, right-of-way management, and transportation and environmental review, the Engineering Division is central to Miami Beach’s long-term success. The new City Engineer will guide this division while working closely with elected officials, regulatory agencies, the development community, and internal departments to advance transformational public infrastructure initiatives.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is required, along with a Professional Engineer (PE) license either currently in or with eligibility for Florida registration required. Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible public works or municipal engineering experience, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity. Experience with public infrastructure planning, capital project management, and regulatory permitting is essential.
